She Played Jill on "Home Improvement " See Patricia Richardson Now

Her last episode as a series regular was "The Great Race", which aired on May 19, 1993. Tim's new assistant, electrician Heidi Keppert, played by Debbe Dunning, replaced Anderson as the Tool Time Girl for the following third season, starting with "Maybe Baby", which aired on September 15, 1993. Dunning had previously appeared in the episode "Overactive Glance" from season 2 where she played an obsessive Tool Time fan named Kiki. Anderson did reprise the role of Lisa on the sixth-season finale episode "The Kiss and the Kiss-Off", which aired on May 20, 1997. Al's struggles with relationships were a long-running plot point throughout the series. In season one, Al dated Greta Post, whom he met while she was volunteering to help out during a Tool Time show.

I didn’t do charity events because I was desperate for time with my kids and husband, who was always mad I was never home. And, in a next-level-great bit of character development, Jill is also wrong plenty of times, too–like when she took over Tim’s engine installation party and turned it into a blind date for her friend. Of course Jill catches onto Wilson’s lessons way quicker than Tim , but seeing this TV mom screw up every now and then just makes her more believable. You’re likely wondering if it wasn’t going to be Patricia Richardson, then who would it have been?

Richardson played Jill like an actual human being with an actual sense of humor, one that would of course find the daily insanity of her life kinda hilarious. That decision resulted in other small choices, like little dances or, one of my favorites, Jill making fun of her kids’ over-the-top screaming by doing her own silent, open-mouth freak out. She’s also the Taylor family’s moral GPS, often tasked with pointing out bad behavior (talking about her drool on local TV, ditchingSwan Lake to go see the Pistons play, cheating off of a girlfriend’s math homework). Thankfully the show lets neighbor Wilson carry some of the lesson-giving load, freeing up Jill to do waaaay more than just scold and forgive. “I had just given birth to two babies, and I really was supposed to do another show for ABC,” Richardson disclosed to HuffPost Live. “And that was supposed to happen nine months later, so I was going to have all this time to lose the weight, and go be with my babies and work.” She even warned producers there may be taping delays while she nursed the twins, but they didn’t care.

Throughout much of the series, Al often has bad luck with women despite, or possibly because of, his emotional sensitivity, which far exceeds Tim's. He does however mend his relationships with them after learning the error of his ways. Unlike Tim and Brad, Randy is not good with his hands and does not enjoy working on crafts or the Hot Rod.

She and Tim would sometimes argue about a man and woman's "place" in the household. Despite Tim's frequent reluctance to understand Jill's point of view, he usually tries to compromise with her. Home Improvement's Tim Taylor might have been notorious for his DIY fails, but fans of the ABC sitcom will surely agree that the show's cast was the key to its success.

As of 2019, Richardson is also the president of the SAG-AFTRA local Los Angeles branch, a position in which she remains as of this writing. " "Home Improvement" The Complete Third Season DVD Review – Page 1 of 2". In January 2021, Allen reprised his role of Tim Taylor in an episode of Last Man Standing titled "Dual Time". On August 3, 2011, in Pacific Palisades, California, the surviving main cast members reunited for Entertainment Weekly magazine, including Jonathan Taylor Thomas, whom the cast had not seen since 1998. It has been mentioned on review sites about the lack of episode commentaries and bonus features on the DVDs . In an interview on About.com, Tim Allen stated that it was a done deal that the DVDs would not contain interviews or episode commentaries.

Marty and Jeff made appearances, and Steve was mentioned in multiple seasons. Tim is occasionally chauvinistic in attitude, usually putting women down or sometimes seeing them as inferior . A running gag is that every time Tim says something sexist on Tool Time, Al holds up a sign displaying the show's mailing address for the women to send in their complaints. He also tends to mock those who are overweight, such as Al's mother or his mother-in-law and can be juvenile in attitude on many occasions. Another running gag involves Jill's distaste for his attitude, in that she says "You're pathetic" every time he goes too far. [Co-star] Jonathan Taylor Thomas and I had similar reactions — he backed off, too, and went to school.

Mark was somewhat of a mama's boy, though later in the series he grew into a teenage outcast who dressed in black clothing. Meanwhile, Brad became interested in cars like his father and took up soccer. Randy joined the school drama club and later the school newspaper; in the eighth season, he left for Costa Rica. Martin "Marty" Taylor (William O'Leary) – Marty is Tim's youngest brother by ten years.

Off screen, she was best known as Clint Eastwood's girlfriend. Fisher dated the actor-turned-director for almost six years after meeting him on the set of the film Pink Cadillac in 1989, in which she had a small part. Richardson became beloved amongst viewers of the time, and maintains a steady career to this day. (We can't quite say the same for Allen.) All this considered, one might assume that Allen and Richardson were the obvious perfect TV couple match from the get-go.

It is mentioned that he has made a number of bad business ventures (such as a drive-thru pet store), was divorced twice, and didn't finish college (as mentioned by Jill's sister in one episode). A close second is Jill, who only missed the second part of the series finale . While he occasionally considers moving on professionally, Tim remains the main host of Tool Time until the final episode of Home Improvement. Before he was cast on Tool Time, he worked as a traveling tool salesman. Tim barely graduated from college but later receives an honorary Doctorate from Western Michigan University. He often voices apelike grunts in a range of tones and inflections to convey emotions for comic effect, such as confusion, irritation or pride.

Jill and Her Sisters

Upon seeing his resemblance to Al, the producers brought him in to be Al's brother, Cal. Tim also often pokes fun at Al's mother, Alma Borland, who is never seen but is apparently severely overweight. In one of the later episodes, Al announces to his mother he is getting married.

Full-time student pursuing a Master's Degree in Psychology and a full-time mother, taking care of her sons and her childish husband. Throughout the course of the series, Jill progresses from being a fairly typical housewife to a career-focused working woman. Throughout the series, Jill has been shown to be bossy and demanding, leading her into millions of arguments with Tim. However, sometimes she realizes her Type A-ish attitude and apologizes to Tim (though he apologizes most of the time due to his narrow-minded complexion). Yet, despite the fact that Richardson and Tim Allen "clicked right away," Richardson was still shocked by the sitcom's long-term success.

The producers tried to work with Fisher on adapting to the situation comedy setting, but shortly after the pilot wrapped post-production, they decided to recast her. As a child, his parents did not allow him to speak to his neighbors, so he really likes talking to Tim and Jill. Wilson serves as an all-wise sage in the show, doling out advice to the Taylor family and seemingly always knowing just what to say to solve a problem. While most of his appearances were to help the Taylors, on seldom occasion someone who was in the extended family, or a nonmember, such as Al, would seek out Wilson's advice. He has traveled the globe and learned much from virtually every culture in existence.
