Her last episode as a series regular was "The Great Race", which aired on May 19, 1993. And, in a next-level-great bit of character development, Jill is also wrong plenty of times, too–like when she took over Tim’s engine installation party and turned it into a blind date for her friend. Of course Jill catches onto Wilson’s lessons way quicker than Tim , but seeing this TV mom screw up every now and then just makes her more believable. Throughout much of the series, Al often has bad luck with women despite, or possibly because of, his emotional sensitivity, which far exceeds Tim's. He does however mend his relationships with them after learning the error of his ways. Unlike Tim and Brad, Randy is not good with his hands and does not enjoy working on crafts or the Hot Rod.

The producers tried to work with Fisher on adapting to the situation comedy setting, but shortly after the pilot wrapped post-production, they decided to recast her. As a child, his parents did not allow him to speak to his neighbors, so he really likes talking to Tim and Jill. Wilson serves as an all-wise sage in the show, doling out advice to the Taylor family and seemingly always knowing just what to say to solve a problem. While most of his appearances were to help the Taylors, on seldom occasion someone who was in the extended family, or a nonmember, such as Al, would seek out Wilson's advice. He has traveled the globe and learned much from virtually every culture in existence.
