The first thing to get used to is how much size and weight shooting with any external recorder adds. The use of such a big screen immediately limits your ability to 'run and gun.' If you're just trying to grab some quick, on-the-move, on-the-fly footage, the Video Assist will slow you down. However, if you have the few extra moments to consider each shot, it increases the chances of you getting it right as well as increasing the quality of your footage. As a result, Blackmagic has to publish a list of SD cards it recommends for its higher frame rates and codecs.

The camera features a series of mounting points for handles, viewfinders and other accessories and has a replaceable side plate that can be swapped-out for one with a SSD/phone holder or a standard rosette connector. Its specs are very similar to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K I tested late last year. The native resolution is 24-megapixels (6K) on a full 36 x 24mm sensor that allows for up to 13 stops of dynamic range with dual native ISO up to 25,600. It can record 12-bit Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) directly to the CFexpress Type B cards or an SSD. DaVinci Resolve has become a popular option for editors who don't want to pay a monthly subscription for Adobe's Premiere Pro, and is arguably more powerful in some ways.

These hands-on lessons will teach you how to cut interviews, dramatic scenes, documentary material, and music videos in both the edit page and the cut page, as well as how to use the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor. You’ll also learn how to build eye-catching effects, mix audio and deliver your final film for online distribution, broadcast TV, or streaming services. The waveform display provides a digitally encoded waveform that shows the luma (brightness) levels of your video signal. Luma levels on the scope will be in roughly the same position relative to those within the frame. For example, if part of your sky is overexposed you will see it in the same horizontal position on the waveform display as it appears in the frame.

Excellent image quality, powerful autofocus and great looking video are the least you can expect. You can quickly adjust audio levels using the HUD, but for complete control over audio settings, you can use the audio tab on the dashboard. Tap to change source inputs for any channel from XLR mic to XLR Line or video. You also get level sliders and realtime meters, along with a pad control for reducing the level on hot sources.

Adds analog and digital connections, preamps for mics and instruments, sample rate conversion and sync at any standard frame rate. Blank 1/3rd wide bay for building a custom console with the extra 1/3rd section. 12 groups of touch sensitive rotary control knobs and illuminated buttons, assignable to fader strips, single channel or master bus.

It's also available with Blackmagic's URSA Cine EVF (electronic viewfinder) that adds $1,695 to the price. When shooting in virtual production environments, the high frequencies of the LED matrix in video walls can cause problems for ultra sharp modern lenses and high resolution sensors, creating interference patterns. Using an optical low pass filter minimizes that interference, which results in a reduction of moire and aliasing. URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF adds a high performance, optical low pass filter that is precisely matched to the 12K sensor. URSA Mini Pro 12K’s extreme resolution goes well beyond traditional motion picture film! You get the benefits of shooting with film including incredible detail, wide dynamic range and rich, deep color.

Blackmagic Video Assist 5" 3G

You can shoot 12K at 60 fps or use in-sensor scaling to allow 8K or 4K RAW at up to 120 fps without cropping or changing your field of view. URSA Mini Pro’s interchangeable lens mount lets you choose from the widest range of vintage and modern cinema lenses, so you can capture every ounce of character and detail from your favorite optics. 3D color lookup tables (LUTs) are used to adjust the color of the output so the director or cinematographer can see a certain "look" as they’re shooting. LUTs are extremely useful when shooting RAW or when using "film" dynamic range, both of which generally look flat when they’re shot. LUTs are used to give you a better idea of what the footage will look like after it has been color corrected in post production. Blackmagic Video Assist can apply 3D LUTs for viewing on the LCD touchscreen, making them ideal for high end feature film and television production.

It uses an Arri PL mount - but ships with a Canon EF mount if that's what you prefer. Blackmagic PYXIS supports creating a small H.264 proxy file in addition to the camera original media when recording. This means the small proxy file can upload to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds so their media is available back at the studio in real time.

When adjusting audio input settings, you can also turn on 48v of phantom power so you can use microphones that are not self powered without an external pre‑amp. Blackmagic PYXIS supports the optional Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF to make outdoors and handheld shooting accurate and easy. Customers get an integrated high quality 1920 x 1080 color OLED display with built in proximity sensor, 4 element glass diopter for incredible accuracy with a wide focus adjustment. The Pyxis captures to CFexpress cards or outputs over USB-C to an external SSD or over Ethernet. It uses Blackmagic's proprietary demosaiced and compressed 'Blackmagic RAW' format and can generate H.264 proxy files alongside. URSA Mini Pro 12K with OLPF has better detail handling for high end feature film.

Blank panel to fill in the channel control area of the Fairlight studio console. The most powerful DaVinci Resolve adds DaVinci Neural Engine for automatic AI region tracking, stereoscopic tools, more Resolve FX filters, more Fairlight FX audio plugins and advanced HDR grading. All of our trainers are passionate about DaVinci Resolve and as ambassadors need to have direct contact with a wide range of customers.

Or the PL model lets customers work with professional cinema lenses from Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke and more without needing an adapter. Featuring a revolutionary 12K Super 35mm 80 megapixel sensor with generation 5 color science and 14 stops of dynamic range, URSA Mini Pro 12K is designed for high end feature film production. This price point gives you access to some of the most all-round capable cameras available.

MSC Names New Cruise Ship in New York City

In the previous year (2017) NYC Ferry inaugurated the commute ferry service linking Manhattan with Long Island (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx). Within the seaport there are 2 FTZs (foreign-trade zones) where commercial goods (domestic and foreign) receive same Customs treatment as outside USA. Annually, Port NY-NJ handles around USD 208 billion in shipping cargoes, around 3,4 million TEU's (shipping containers) and nearly 0,4 million cars. Port NYC NJ (officially "Port of New York and New Jersey") handles a huge cargo shipping volume and is US East Coast's biggest seaport. For a better experience and to continue your booking with MSC, please update your browser by downloading the latest version below. Officials say their plan was always to move the men when cruise season started.

MSC Cruises unveils Summer 2024 'Stay & Cruise' program for extended holiday experiences

Port New York has two cruise ports with their own passenger terminal facilities. Port Manhattan (4 berths on 2 piers - numbers 88 and 90) is located on Manhattan Island's western coast, beside the Hudson River. Port Brooklyn (1 berth) is located approx 6 mi (10 km) to the south, on eastern Upper Bay on Brooklyn’s Red Hook waterline. Port New York cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month.

MSC Meraviglia Part of MSC Cruises' North American Expansion

Port Cape Liberty is in close proximity to EWR-Newark Liberty Airport (10 mi / 16 km to the west, ~20-min travel time by car) and easy to access, skipping NYC's heavy traffic and bridges. In 2010, the NY-NJ Port Authority estimated that improvement to air quality could yield public health benefits of USD 99 million over 15 years. That was a key element for community groups around the terminal’s Red Hook neighborhood to start pushing for shore power. Beyond the infrastructure cost, the project was delayed by haggling over the price of electrical power – in an era where cheap fuel prices made shipboard generation more economical. The power costs are subsidized in part by the EDC and the New York Power Authority, with terminal user Carnival Corp picking up the rest.

During the autumn months, the ship will also offer Canada and New England sailings, always popular for the spectacular fall foliage at that time of year. Most of her cruises will be tropical sailings to Bermuda, The Bahamas, or popular Caribbean destinations such as Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. With sailings year-round from the world-famous excitement of New York City, you can embark on a cruise to the picture-perfect beaches of Bermuda, the exciting attractions of The Bahamas and Florida, or the picturesque ports of Canada and New England. MSC Cruises has long been committed to environmental stewardship, with a long-term goal to achieve net zero emissions for its operations by 2050.

MSC Cruises has officially taken a bite from the Big Apple as MSC Meraviglia docked this morning at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, marking the beginning of year-round sailings the ship, one of the largest in MSC Cruises’ fleet, will offer from New York. Travelers can also board the ship for five and six-night sailings to Bermuda beginning in August and 10 and 11-night voyages that visit places like Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in Canada, among others. The Company’s number one priority has always been the health and safety of its guests and crew, as well as the communities at the destinations its ships serve. In August 2020, MSC Cruises implemented a new comprehensive and robust health and safety protocol to become the first major line to return to sea. Caribbean voyages run between seven and eight nights in duration, with calls on Nassau and MSC's own private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. At the top of all the piers, there is a building with dedicated parking lots, snack bars, restrooms, check-in, VIP areas, customs, newsstands.

MSC added Port Canaveral in 2021 as a permanent homeport offering a mix of three, four and seven-night cruises. The cruise line is expanding its offering in the US by basing its MSC Meraviglia cruise ship out of New York City, the first time for MSC Cruises. Plans have been revealed to homeport the vessel from the city year-round out of the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal starting in April 2023.

MSC Meraviglia Offers Great Family Fun

The Company is also a significant investor in next-generation environmental marine technologies, with the objective to support their accelerated development and availability industry-wide. Until then, MSC's presence in the United States is solidified with sailings of five ships, from New York, Port Canaveral (for Orlando) and PortMiami. Our late-January 2023 cruise aboard MSC Meraviglia showcased a ship that is in pristine condition, from staterooms to public areas and outer deck spaces.

USCG (Coast Guard) maintains all floatable debris and marine accidents and incidents (spills, rescues, counter-terrorism operations). US Customs and Border Protection and US Immigration and Customs agencies regulate international shipping imports and cruise passenger arrivals. All these ports/cruise terminals are part of the "Port of New York and New Jersey" - a port district in the New York Metro (total population 20,1+ million). Since you asked, MSC Meraviglia is one of the world's biggest cruise ships. Known as "The Ship for All Seasons," she has expansive indoor and outdoor public spaces, as well as a pool deck with a roof that can close for weather.

Six-night Bermuda sailings will dock for three days at King's Wharf on the island. Canada and New England itineraries are for 10 or 11 nights and call in Boston and Portland, Maine as well as Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island; Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada. "New York City was the natural choice when we picked our next U.S. port because it’s so accessible, whether the guest is coming from somewhere nearby or from around the world," said Rubén Rodríguez, president, MSC Cruises USA, in a prepared statement.

MSC Meraviglia, a 1,036-foot long (France's Eiffel Tower is 1,083 feet high, and only if you include the tip), 213-foot-tall, 19-deck floater capable of holding more than 5,700 guests is a vacation in its own right, the cruise line says. There is parking available at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, says $30 per day. It appears to be very close to the terminal but I have never departed from Brooklyn before. City leaders say this ship will bring job and tourism opportunities for thousands in New York City. The mayor is expecting an economic boom of $102 million a year in spending from tourists.

The ship sparkles just as it did when we sailed on it back in 2017, and one has to try with great difficulty to find any hint of wear or tear on the ship, even in high-traffic areas. Adults, of course, have plenty of diversions to look forward to, from the clubby Brass Anchor Pub on Deck 7, to the sinfully delicious offerings at the Jean-Philippe Chocolate and Coffee Bar on Deck 6, which incidentally offers some of the coziest, oceanview seating on the ship. Bermuda itineraries are six nights and spend three days docked at King's Wharf, Bermuda, bookended by a series of relaxing sea days to and from New York.

Cruise ships and ferries in Port New York and New Jersey dock at the berths of Cape Liberty Cruise Port (Upper Bay, Bayonne NJ), Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (Upper Bay, NYC) and New York Passenger Ship Terminal (Hudson River, NYC). NY-NJ port's main imports are petroleum, appliances, vehicles, plastics, electronics, chemicals, perfumes, pharmaceuticals, optical and photographic materials, precious gems and metals. Port's foreign trade zones - FTZ 1 (New York) and FTZ 49 (New Jersey)  handled in 2010 a combined shipping traffic of 4811 vessels and over 32,2 million tons of cargoes valued USD 175+ billion.

By making Brooklyn its home, MSC Meraviglia has staked a claim in making this terminal better known among mainstream cruisers. While there's no subway stop at the cruise terminal, there is plenty of parking. If you're staying the night before, there are some good boutique hotels in Red Hook, which has long been a popular tourist area. And finally, the Red Hook terminal is actually a shorter distance from JFK airport than the one in Manhattan (and it's not all that far from LaGuardia either). Since MSC is a line that often attracts international guests, such proximity to major airports is key. Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve: Everything you need to know

msc cruise private island

The building has several interactive pavilions, a lecture hall (for conferences and also providing educational opportunities), and coral exhibition tanks. In mid-January 2019 was announced that Ocean Cay Island will be opened on November 9, 2019, during the scheduled port call of MSC Meraviglia. Next table shows this "inaugural" 13-day itinerary (repositioning cruise from NYC to Miami) as call ports and times. MSC has partnered with Stream2Sea to make coral restoration in the marine reserve a priority. What good is a private island if you can’t get something good to eat right? Seakers Food Court is right about in the middle of the island.

Beachfront Yacht Club Cabana

In other words, if you’ve ever wanted to spend a day on your own island, surrounded by the bluest water on the planet, this is your chance. It’s large, with seemingly miles of beaches and enough space to where you can get away from it all. The sale, which was extended and must be booked by April 18, offers cruises starting at just $179 per person, according to MSC. The sale rate is based on double occupancy and does not include the taxes, fees, or port expenses.

CRUISE TO OUR EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE ISLANDOCEAN CAY MSC MARINE RESERVE

This was the world's first-ever ship naming ceremony held at a private island. The USD 200 million project was launched in Nassau, where country's Prime Minister and MSC's Executive Chairman signed a 100-year lease agreement. The deal gave MSC rights to occupy and develop the island as an exclusive cruise destination - officially named "Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve". See breathtaking volcanoes and giant, colorful reefs in South Africa.

One of the World’s Largest Cruise Ships That Nobody Is Talking About (Yet)

Bars and food trucks are scattered throughout the island, and visitors can book water-based tours or rent water sports equipment. Cabanas have increasingly become a popular way to enjoy a private island beach day, and Ocean Cay has them at different beaches. All cabanas take a maximum of six guests and you can come and go throughout the day. You'll be welcomed with fresh water and towels, fruit skewers show up in the afternoon.

msc cruise private island

Everything you need to know about the new Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises exclusive private island in the Bahamas. Anyone can rent a cabana on North, South and Bimini Beach. The thatched roof huts are partially walled with a cushioned couch and wooden table inside and lounge chairs outside; they come with extra towels, cold water and two floating mats. These activities were not available on my summer cruise due to a combination of a later sunset and an earlier evening departure. Pick them up at designated rental stations on the island (including the umbrellas, which you'll have to carry to the beach and set up yourself). Note that only South and North Beach have preset umbrella stands for placing your rental umbrella.

Reasons to Visit Ocean Cay – MSC Cruises’ Private Island

The Ocean Cay Trading Post sells Ocean Cay branded souvenirs and gifts inspired by nature. The Great Star food truck near South Beach offers seafood specials for an additional charge. Choose from lobster grilled cheese, fried calamari, lobster bacon roll, grilled octopus salad, seafood ceviche and seafood watermelon salad for prices ranging from $7.95 to $12.95. They're available on all beaches except Sunset Beach, Lighthouse Bay and Paradise Sands. All of the tours are 1.5 to 2 hours in length, except the lighthouse climb, which is only 30 minutes. Depending on the MSC fare class you purchase, you may be eligible for discounts on tours if purchased online before your sailing.

If you're looking for waterslides and zip lines, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is not the private island playground you've been seeking. During our time on the island, five bars were open (including the one at Ocean House for Yacht Club guests) and five were closed. -- again a bit of a bummer if you wanted a drink during the sunset beach party. As you start planning your day at Ocean Cay, keep in mind that there is more to do than go to the beach. You can take a wave runner excursion, sign up for a guided kayak paddle or take an organized snorkel or paddleboard trip. You can also rent all of this equipment -- except the wave runners -- on your own too.

Hotels With Cruise Shuttles For Every Major Port in America

The closer, longer lagoon-facing beach, with easy access to bars, food trucks and the main Seakers Food Court. If you've signed up for water sports, you'll find equipment such as standup paddleboards and kayaks at one end of South Beach. All Caribbean and Bahamas cruises that depart from Miami, Orlando (Port Canaveral), and New York City (Brooklyn) include a visit to Ocean Cay, which is exclusive to MSC Cruises guests. Whether embarking on a weekend cruise or an extended vacation, your time on the island will create lasting memories. Everything from massages, lighthouse tours and water sports equipment rentals to beach parties, volleyball games and shore excursions takes place elsewhere.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club cabanas vs. regular cabanas

You can find traditional American barbecue favorites and a range of Bahamian cuisine. Several Beach Shack food trucks are also placed throughout Ocean Cay, serving up burgers, hot dogs, salads and pizza. Cruise Addicts visited Ocean Cay during a cruise on MSC Divina and discovered five reasons to love MSC’s private island in the Bahamas. As darkness falls early on the island (around7pm in winter) you can even book a glow-in-the-dark experience. Specialstand-up paddleboards are fitted with LED lights beneath them.

The difference between a regular ocean cabana and a deluxe ocean cabana (besides $100) is that you receive food and drink service. In November 2018 started the planting of over 75,000 native plants, including 60 types of Caribbean grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees. The seabed surrounding the island will be repopulated with various marine life. One thing that sets Ocean Cay apart from many other private islands visited by cruise ships is that it has its own pier. That makes it easy for passengers to go back and forth between their ship and the island during visits. Yacht Club guests can access cabanas on their exclusive beach, Ocean House Beach.

Many beaches also offered shade umbrellas that attached to the lounger. This was important because with palm trees still needing time to grow, shade was something of a commodity. If you love the beach and just want an amazing beach day during your cruise, it’s hard to beat over 2 miles of lovely beaches all over Ocean Cay. This is not your run-of-the-mill cruise line private island. And it might be what MSC Cruises did NOT include on the island that stands out the most. During my day ashore, I expected to have a wide variety of drinks to choose from, but I found options rather limited.

You may have disembarked from the ship, but so too have allthe beauticians, masseuses and therapist! The Spa has private cabanas fortreatments in the fresh sea air. It also has fitness regimes and relaxationclasses while you’re chilling out on the island. If you want to escape the sun for a while or have youngsters who may need a nap, consider renting a private beach cabana for the day.

There’s a family oriented stargazing session, as well as a glow-in-the-dark paddleboard outing. To be honest, we say this is one instance where the fantasy of a beach massage is better than the reality. It can be windy on Ocean Cay, and if you’re in the spa cabana, you'll still hear the wind whipping through the walls as opposed to the lovely calming music. Plus while there are outdoor showers, the risk of having sand stick to your oiled body is fairly high.

Ocean Cay Village has several shops selling souvenirs and beach necessities. Even better, they are blissfully air-conditioned, should you need a respite on your walk from the sand to the ship. These cost $402 per cabana to rent on board; the mats and snorkel gear are valued at $188. You can take a walk around the island, but you can't climb the lighthouse unless you book an official tour. On my summer sailing, the snorkel equipment was already sold out when I went to reserve a set the day before we docked at Ocean Cay. If you plan on renting equipment rather than bringing your own, put a hold on a set as early as possible.

Long Beach Cruise Ports: Ensenada, Mexico

carnival cruise long beach to ensenada

There is so much to do on the Carnival cruise and with a three-day cruise, we found we spent very little time in our room and preferred lounging at the pool to the stateroom. So if you’re interested in a fun cruise for a weekend getaway, and are interested in what Carnival has to offer, this post is for you! When we sailed with Carnival we were on the Imagination ship, but the Radiance is the newest ship in their line for this weekend cruise.

Other Carnival Cruise Line cruise ships

We had a few tacos, grilled giant clams, margarita and pina colada while in Ensenada, however, still found ourselves starving upon returning to the ship! The Caribbean-themed buffet was my favorite of all the buffet menu during this trip! Like I mentioned earlier, I was thoroughly impressed with the check-in process. Carnival has recently started using a portion of the dome. There will be 3 lines - early, on-time and VIP or Faster to the Fun. We arrived at around 12 noon and there were hardly any people lined up.

Still, we were happy to see a diverse mix of passengers onboard with us. Fellow passengers ranged in ages from wee kiddos to retirees, with many passengers appearing to be in their late 30s to mid-50s and from all over the U.S. In 2018, Carnival Victory received its first round of updates, laying the foundation for its ultimate conversion into Carnival Radiance just three years later.

There is also an adults-only (21 years+)  outdoor space on the Promenade level called Serenity with a large hot tub and lounge area with chaise recliners. Our room was set up with a king-size bed and a Pullman (a bed attached to the wall — like an upper bunk– that can be pushed up for more space when it’s not being used for a bed). The 146,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Long Beach Cruise Terminal has been totally renovated and is beautiful. The palm tree-lined terminal, is huge and allows for quick and easy embarkation.

Plus the adults have plenty of spots for a drink, like the fan-favorite Alchemy Bar™ and Heroes Tribute™ Bar, which refreshes everyone while paying tribute to men and women of the military. For the kids, don't worry — there's three youth spaces where you can hang out with others your age, plus we've got real Zumbini™ classes for the even-littler ones. The trade-off for having the best that Carnival has to offer at your fingertips is that some indoor venues come off being tight on space.

Feature onboard events were a full live concert and nightly open-deck parties. Nearly 60% of the Victory's guest rooms are oceanviews, of which 60% have balconies. The amenities include 2-deck Lido Buffet dining complex, 9-deck Atrium with 4 glass-walled elevators, 3-deck "Caribbean lounge", large Spa complex. The vessel's interior design theme is "seas and oceans of the world". During drydock 2007, a "Seaside Theater" (outdoor LED screen by the main pool) was added.

The Carnival liner's new namesakes are the Royal Caribbean ship Radiance Of The Seas (2001-built) and the Emerald Waterways riverboat Emerald Radiance (2017-built). CCL has the Corporation's largest fleet as number of vessels and GT-tonnage (ship sizes/volumes and passenger capacities). In 2023, CCL had ~9% (by revenue) and ~19% (passengers) share of the cruise industry's worldwide market. In 2024, the parent company (Carnival Corporation) had ~51% stake in the US$64+ billion industry.

There is one resort-style pool on the Carnival cruise to Mexico and it is located on the Lido Deck. There are three stateroom categories on the Carnival Radiance; Interior, Ocean View, and Suite. We had an ocean view room, which is listed as sleeping up to five people. This blowhole is an amazing natural marine geyser that is capable of shooting water well over 60 feet in the air.

The two-and-a-half-hour Pacific ATV tour offers riding on a four-wheeler along the coast. The mountain tour takes you on rugged dirt trails that lie just outside of the city. In winter, Sergio's Sport Fishing offers a four-hour tour during which you can often spot migrating gray whales. The teens in Club O2 hung out in the club room, went to onboard shows, the video arcade and met for meals. Our son had a great time and loved connecting with other teens and my husband and I found we were on our own for most of our cruise — having dinner on our own and enjoying many of the onboard shows. Passengers looking to balance out their Fun Ship cruise with a little R&R might want to consider upgrading their interior or balcony room to one of the ship's new Cloud 9 Spa rooms.

Carnival Radiance Cruise Ship Review First-hand Expert Review

Some come to sample the fresh seafood cuisine, while others enjoy shopping for crafts and whale-watching. If you are cruising from Long Beach, California, to Ensenada, compare excursion itineraries and allow time to explore the port. During our day in port, we chose to explore the town on our own. We’ve visited Ensenada and the wine country many times, so we enjoyed visiting a local museum, lunch at Muelle 3 and strolling through town. I’m sure if we did a longer cruise, there would be more family time, but with just three days my son opted to hang with the other teenagers on board. It’s your cruise ship bible and we carried it with us and constantly referred to it throughout the day and evening.

There are more than 20 shore excursions you can book when you buy your cruise or while you are on the cruise ship. Excursion options range from nearby wine country tours of Valle de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Valley), to surfing, kayaking, food tours and lots more. Spa Cloud 9 rooms are located at the forward of the ship, on Deck 10 (Panorama Deck) and Deck 11 (Spa Deck), giving guests close access to the gym, spa and thermal suites. One downside to the otherwise clutch location of these rooms is that port side Cloud 9 Spa rooms on Deck 11 are located directly below the ship's Camp Ocean kids club. Expect to hear running and stomping nightly until the kids club closes late into the night. New venue for the fleet is "Big Chicken" - ship version of the land-based restaurant chain operated by Carnival’s "Chief Fun Officer" Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal - retired professional US basketball player).

For a luxury hotel that won’t break the bank, I recommend the Westin Long Beach, which is currently the #1 hotel on Tripadvisor. Travel insurance is designed to cover unexpected medical emergencies and events such as trip cancellation, lost, stolen or damaged luggage by an airline or cruise line, and other related losses incurred while traveling. You can book your 3 Day Baja Mexico cruise from long beach with Carnival via our affiliate link with Cruise Direct for as little as $154 and you’ll never have to pay a booking fee. During our cruise, we had a bit of rain on day one and it was a tad chilly for the waterslides for us. Carnival has a waterpark called WaterWorks and it includes a twister waterslide, a double straight slide, two mini slides and a spray park. We traveled in March, which can be hit or miss as far as weather.

You’ll also find lots of fun activities happening on the Lido Deck — we caught a hairy chest contest that was fun and funny to watch. The busiest spots for lunch seemed to be the Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Mexican Cafe, both located on the Lido Deck. Unlike a road trip where you are moving from location to location — on a cruise, there is no need to constantly unpack and pack again, change hotels, or drive from place to place. Below you’ll find some helpful tips for cruising and some of our favorite moments on our 3-Day Baja, Mexico cruise from long beach to Ensenada.

The largest are the Captain's Suites (505 ft2 / 47 m2 plus 150 ft2 / 14 m2 terrace, max capacity 5 passengers). According to Ensenada Tourism, "Each U.S. and Canadian citizen may return to the U.S. with $400 worth of merchandise, provided it is for personal use." It is illegal to offer police officers a bribe if you are pulled over. If you are stopped for any reason, follow the officer to the nearest precinct to pay the fee. Though you do not require a tourist card in Ensenada if your stay does not exceed 72 hours, you must present your passport upon re-entry into the United States. Onboard, you’ll also find the Mirage Piano Bar, Illusions Nightclub (18+), Shangri La Lounge, Dream Bar, Atrium Lobby Bar, Alchemy bar where they specialized in martinis and cocktails and have a casino.

These rooms have a more relaxing color palette in their decor and come with great perks, including unlimited free access to the onboard thermal suite – a new Radiance feature -- often well worth the price of the upgrade on its own. On board, Radiance has WaterWorks for the young and young at heart as well as SportSquare, Seuss at Sea and the Serenity Adult Only Retreat. The ship also offers spa treatments at Cloud 9 Spa and arts and crafts at Make it with Michael's, among other activities. La Bufadora is considered to be the second-largest marine geyser in the world. The Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico Carnival Cruise is one of the most affordable cruises and vacation options out there! Once you arrive in your cabin, check out the "Fun Times" to see which activities you want to attend. Whether you are arriving on a personal vehicle or a paid transportation, there will be plenty of porters collecting your luggage by the parking lot.

Between the buffet, main dining room, three specialty restaurants and six eateries, there's no shortage of places to eat on Carnival Radiance. And we love that, in typical Carnival fashion, the majority of the onboard eateries are included in the price of the cruise. That said, expect long lines during peak times for popular spots such as Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, Pizzeria del Capitano, and Big Chicken. If it were just my husband and I cruising together, we would've opted to stay onboard and enjoy the empty ship since we've already been to Ensenada before. However, since it was our cousin's first time, we ventured out with him! Ensenada's biggest attraction is the blowhole in La Bufadora.

It is important to note that the "Sail and Sign Cards" are no longer handed during check-in. Instead, they are left outside the door of your cabin and while waiting, your printed boarding pass will be used to make purchases. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. On July 7, 2020, CCL-Carnival announced that is currently evaluating shipyards with proper drydock capabilities to complete the Carnival Victory-Radiance refit project.

The Port of Ensenada is located on the Baja Peninsula, approximately 80 miles south of San Diego, California. Most cruise lines operate motorcoach transfers from the San Diego airport to Ensenada. The boat's new homeport and cruise itineraries were announced in November 2018. When we say that Carnival Miracle takes you to another world, we mean that in every sense. Not only does this ship visit stunning destinations, but features incredible onboard spaces inspired by elements of fantasy. Escape from reality as you take in a show at the Phantom Lounge or a dance at Dr. Frankenstein's Lab. To lose yourself in a song, find your way to Sam's Piano Bar.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. This is a fun itinerary for a weekend getaway, but after experiencing a 3-day cruise, we all agreed that we’d love to try a longer cruise. Between the teen club for my son and all the fun things to do onboard, there just wasn’t enough time to experience it all plus enjoy some downtime. If you're looking to travel solely to Ensenada from Long Beach, Carnival Cruise is your only option.

In mid-August 2020, Carnival announced that the Victory ship will be taken out of service through early-May 2022. The drydock project was first delayed by 2 months then further postponed (CruiseMinus). Carnival Radiance has a redesigned WaterWorks park (with the new waterslide AquaTunnel) and SportSquare (outdoor complex with suspended ropes course). Following the reconstruction in 2020, on Carnival Radiance will be added new dining, beverage and entertainment venues. These include Guy’s Pig and Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse (by Guy Fieri), Fahrenheit 555 (steakhouse), Bonsai Sushi, Cucina del Capitano (Italian restaurant), RedFrog Pub, Piano Bar 88.

According to the announcement, the project is expected to be completed in 2021-Q1. Carnival Radiance's Maiden Voyage was rescheduled from November 8, 2020, to May 2, 2021, and a total of 25x cruises (November 8, 2020, through and including April 24, 2021) were canceled. Until early-2013, the liner offered 7-day Southern Caribbean cruises from homeport San Juan (Puerto Rico). In 2013, Valor replaced the Destiny ship (now Sunshine) in PortMiami. Follows the complete list of Carnival Victory lounges, clubs and other entertainment venues for kids, teens, and adults. Often referred to as the "Love Port," Ensenada, Mexico, attracts more than 4.5 million vacationers every year.

The other vessel from this class was the old Destiny ship - renamed Carnival Sunshine after an extensive refit in 2013. Carnival Victory was christened by godmother Mary Frank - wife of Howard Frank (Carnival Corporation's Vice Chairman). The inaugural cruise (maiden voyage) started on October 15, 2000 (leaving from NYC New York). The first drydock refurbishment was in 2007 ("Fun Ship 1.0"). For the first time, these best-selling Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades were implemented on Carnival Magic (2011) and Carnival Breeze (2012). Thanks to its stunning coastline, Ensenada will give you plenty of postcard-worthy moments…, and it couldn’t be easier to get there.
